Performing Arts

Performing Arts Clubs seek to increase awareness and to discover the many talents among Carl Sandburg High School's student body and share their aptitudes in music, dance, and theater.  These clubs then in turn nurture, develop and showcase these creative talents.
 

chamber singersCHAMBER SINGERS

The Chamber Singers is our advanced co-curricular group at Sandburg. Acceptance into this group is by audition only, and all participants must be enrolled in one of the curricular music programs at Sandburg. During first semester, this ensemble performs almost solely as a caroling group. The large performance schedule occurs during late November through December, and attendance at all rehearsals/performances is imperative to stay in the group.

color guardCOLOR GUARD 

Color Guard is a performing component of the Marching Band that is trained in dance, flag, rifle and saber. Color Guard competes with the Marching Band at all competitions in the fall. Auditions only.

drama clubDRAMA CLUB

Drama club aims to promote theater consciousness among students and gives them the opportunity to discover the world of performance. We explore improvisation, dramatic, and comedic skills. Improv-O-Rama is our end-of-year comedy showcase performed live for friends and family.

The tech crew allows students to explore hands-on the field of technical theater, including lighting, sound, prop building, scene construction and design, special effects and stage management.

Jazz Band educates students in the style of jazz, including Swing, Be-Bop, Blues, Latin, Funk and Rock. Membership by audition.

The Marching Band supports the school, football team and community through excellence in a variety if music and marching styles. Membership is by audition only.

Meeting Information: Rehearsals begin in June with a two week camp, and a three week July and August camp. Camps run Monday through Friday from 3:00-9:00pm. The marching band season runs until the Sunday after Thanksgiving. The school year schedule is 3-4 days a week after school, including Tuesday or Wednesday night rehearsals in the stadium from 6:00-9:00pm

orchesisORCHESIS

Orchesis is a performing arts troupe that performs throughout the year in various settings. Dance styles vary from ballet to jazz, hip-hip and modern to tap. Membership is through audition only.
